About The Universal Peace Sanctuary
In 2013, the Nepalese government entrusted His Eminence Shyalpa
Tenzin Rinpoche and his charitable organizations with the task of
developing a “temple of peace” in Lumbini, Nepal, the birthplace of
the Buddha.
The Mahasiddha Sanctuary will honor the Enlightened One’s fearless engagement and compassionate action in our world for the benefit and welfare of all sentient beings. It will serve as a radiant beacon, helping to inspire and guide individuals, communities, and nations toward peaceful coexistence and reconciliation.
His Eminence envisions the Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal
Peace as the ideal spiritual destination and pilgrimage site for
people of every race, color, and creed.
The sanctuary’s uniquely modern design incorporates traditional Buddhist symbols:
1) Lotus flower ; purity and the blossoming of enlightened qualities
2) Butter lamp ; the five wisdoms
3) An offering mandala ; the accumulation of merit
4) Stupa ; the mind of enlightenment.

ABOUT SHYALPA TENZIN RINPOCHE
While the Universal Peace Sanctuary is non-denominational, its visionary, His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche is of Dzogchen Tibetan Buddhist lineage. He’s perfectly fluent in English because he taught and lived in US and Europe for years. He has been called the world’s best translator of sacred Dzogchen texts. He is the best-selling author of “Living Fully: Finding Joy in Every Breath”.
H.E. Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche was born in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas. His Eminence was recognized as a holy child and began training as a lama at the age of four. Rinpoche attended the Buddhist University in Sarnath, India, and received empowerment and transmissions from many of the greatest realized Buddhist masters. Rinpoche is a lineage holder of the Great Perfection, Dzogchen Tibetan Buddhism. His primary root teacher is His Holiness Chatral Rinpoche, Sangjey Dorje.
Shyalpa Rinpoche’s son, His Holiness the IXth Kyabgon Jedrungpa, was coronated at 8 years old as the 9th Reincarnation of the Tibetan king who brought Buddhism to Tibet, founded of the Tibetan Empire, and created the Tibetan alphabet - Songtsen Gampo (569–649).
